I found this at MyLinuxBook.com and it is a tool I wished I knew about long ago. Glances is a System Monitoring tool for Linux that allows you to watch all the important stuff in real-time. You can download the source or install it through most major package management systems.
For Ubuntu, enter:
sudo apt-get install glances
When the install is done, type:
You will see a dashboard of all the metrics you should see in the TOP command but you also get network and cpu usage as well. Check it out over at: http://nicolargo.github.io/glances/
